FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

At Vigil Family Wines, we believe in transparency — in our farming, our craft, and how we share our wines. As a small, family-run winery, every decision we make is intentional: from skipping unnecessary packaging to hand-delivering wines to our first supporters. Below, you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions we receive about how (and why) we do things a little differently.

Do you have a tasting room?

Not yet — but we love to host special gatherings.
While we don’t have a public tasting room, we do host invite-only tastings and events. Join our mailing list to receive exclusive invitations and be the first to hear when we launch pop-up tastings and events.

Can I pick up my order in person?

Online orders are not currently available for pickup, but we’re happy to make special arrangements.
If you’re local and would prefer to pick up your wines directly from us and save on shipping, please contact us to schedule a time that works.

Do you have a wine club?

Not yet — but it’s coming.
Our wine club will be small, intentional, and built for those who truly want to be part of our family. Join our mailing list to be the first to know when it launches and to receive early access to allocations and special releases.

Where do you ship?

We currently ship within California only.
We’re working to expand our shipping reach — join our mailing list and you’ll be the first to know when we open our shipping up to new states.

Why does wine shipping cost so much?

Wine shipping is more complex (and costly) than most online orders because it’s treated as a controlled substance — and a fragile one. Every shipment must comply with state alcohol laws, be signed for by an adult 21+, and travel in temperature-safe, protective packaging to ensure it arrives in perfect condition.

We don’t mark up shipping — the rates you see reflect the true cost of safely and legally getting our wines from our cellar to your door. It’s one of the reasons we’re working toward a future wine club, where we can offer more efficient, member-friendly shipping options.

Why don’t you use foil capsules?

We believe in letting the wine — and the craftsmanship — speak for itself. Our bottles are finished without foil capsules to reduce waste and keep our packaging minimal, honest, and true to our values. Capsules are largely decorative and often end up as unnecessary landfill waste. By skipping them, we’re simplifying the experience — from the first glance to the final pour — and honoring what matters most: what’s inside the bottle.

VIGIL FAMILY HIEROGLYPHS

Our Living Symbols

Before there were tasting notes, there were stories.

Before there were vineyards, there was movement.

Our inaugural vintage introduced a symbolic language—one rooted in ancestry, nature, and transformation. These are not decorative. They are deeply personal. They are part of how we tell our story.

The Monarch

TRANSFORMATION / MIGRATION / MEMORY

Each year, millions of monarch butterflies travel thousands of miles to Michoacán, Mexico—ancestral land tied to the Vigil family’s origins. This epic migration mirrors our own story: movement across borders, across generations, across time. The monarch represents transformation, endurance, and the invisible threads that connect us to where we came from—even when we build something new. For us, the monarch is not just a symbol of beauty. It is a symbol of becoming.

Oyamel Fir Tree

Protection / Sanctuary / Continuity

High in the mountains of central Mexico, the monarchs return each winter to one sacred place: the Oyamel fir forests. These ancient trees create the exact conditions the monarchs need to survive—cool, sheltered, and still. The Oyamel represents home as refuge. Land as guardian. Roots that hold even when everything else is in motion. In our story, this tree is a reminder that cultivation is not just about growing—it’s about protecting what grows.

The Wolf

Kinship / Resilience / Instinct

The Vigil family traces its roots to a small town known as La Lobera—“The Place of the Wolf.” Wolves are not solitary. They move in packs. They rely on one another. They endure. For us, the wolf represents family, intuition, loyalty, and survival. It is a reminder that nothing we build is built alone—and that strength is collective.
